PROCEDURES:
Enter the room quietly, check the white board for instructions
FOR COMPUTER CLASSES: go to your computer, log on and begin typing unless there are different directions on the whiteboard.
FOR READING CLASSES: follow all directions on the whiteboard quickly and quietly.
DURING ANNOUNCEMENTS OF ANY KIND: You may stop what you are doing and pay attention (see announcements rule above for additional info)
Be in your seats ready to begin when the bell rings.
Giving me your full attention: When you see me standing at the front of the room I expect your full attention or I may count to three (1, 2, 3) and raise three fingers to get your attention.
Pencil Sharpening: check to see if you need to sharpen your pencil before class begins and sharpen it then. If your pencil breaks in the middle of class work, you must ask for permission to leave your seat to sharpen it. It is best to have more than one sharpened pencil with you.
Supplies: All students are expected to have all necessary supplies with them in school every day. If you do not have a writing utensil or paper, you may ask a neighbor to lend you supplies, but you must do this BEFORE class begins. You may also ask me if you can use a pencil or get a piece of notebook paper from my supply. These are located next to the printer.
Bathroom and water: You must raise your hand and wait to be called on to ask to use the bathroom or get a drink of water. You will then fill out your planner with the place you are going and the time and bring your planner to me so that I can sign it. You will take your planner with you as your hall pass. DO NOT ask to leave the room in the middle of a lesson. Do your best to use the bathroom between classes.
Tissues: There is always a box of tissues on my desk. You may get a tissue at any time.
Trash: If you have something to throw away in the middle of a lesson, you must wait until the lesson is over to get up and throw it away.
Paper headings: For written assignments: Put your full name on the top line in the upper right. On the next line put the date and on the third line put the assignment, including any page numbers. For typed assignments: Put the same information in the same order as for written assignments. For worksheets: Put your name and the date in the spaces provided.
Handing in papers: Papers will be passed up to the front of each row of seats. I will give individual instructions as to how I will collect the papers from the front of each row.
Questions / Comments / Help Needed: Raise your hand and wait to be called on when you have something to say/ask
Tardies: If you are late to school, you must stop in the office to get a late pass. If you are late to class, you must bring a pass from your previous class’ teacher (or from the adult you were with).
Absences – Make Up Work: It is the responsibility of the student to find out what the missed/make-up work is. Feel free to email me the day you are absent to find out what work or homework you need to do. Also, check the classroom webpage to see if I have posted any new assignments there.
Entering / Leaving the room during class: Please be quiet. Do not talk to or disturb other students on your way in or out of the room. Close the door quietly when leaving and returning.
End of class: The bell does not automatically dismiss the class. You will wait, seated, until I give verbal permission to leave.
Leaving the room as a group: If we ever need to leave the room as a group – walk to lunch, go to an assembly, etc., we will walk quietly and stay together. We will walk in a line, not a group, down the right side of the hallway. Do not block the hallway by walking in the middle.
Firedrills: You will be quiet during a firedrill so that you can hear any important directions/information. Move quickly and quietly out the back door of the school and across the field to the basketball court where we will line up as a class. THIS IS NOT A TIME TO GO FIND YOUR FRIENDS AND SOCIALIZE. When we are given the signal to return to class, you will return to the classroom immediately – no detours to the bathroom or for water.
Tornado drill: You will line up in the hallway outside the classroom on your knees facing the walls. Keep your head down and there is NO TALKING!
Substitutes / other adults in the classroom: All classroom rules and procedures apply even when I am not in the classroom. This includes when I leave the room for a short time or when I have a substitute. I expect students to be respectful of the other adult in the room and be on their best behavior. I always expect a good report when I return.
