Grades 6 - 8
Course Descriptions
- 6th Grade: This 9 - week course introduces students to the basics of computer use. Students will learn correct keyboarding techniques using the Mavis Beacon Typing program as well as how to use Microsoft Office products effectively. Online Safety is emphasized throughout the course.
- 7th Grade: This 9 - week course builds on the skills learned in the 6th grade course. Students do not need to have completed the 6th grade computer course to be successful in this course. Students will continue to learn correct keyboarding techniques as well as advancing their knowledge of the Microsoft Office products. Online Safety continues to be emphasized throughout the course.
- 8th Grade: This year long course includes the following units of study: The History of Computers, Inside the Computer, Using Computers Responsibly and The Future of Computing. Students will also learn Web Design and Digital Photgraphy Techniques. Use of Office products will be emphasized through the course of study. Keyboarding and Online Safety is also continued throughout the year. New to the course for 2006 – 2007 is the use of Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts.

- Folder for handouts and notebook paper
- Blue or black pen or pencil
- USB Flash Drive
- Headphones
Grading
8th Grade
- Classwork 30%
- Projects 35%
- Typing 25%
- Tests 15%
6th & 7th Grade
- Classwork 30%
- Projects 40%
- Typing 30%
All assignments are expected to be handed in on the due date unless the student is absent on that date. Make up work for absences will be handled according to PPCMS policies.
